Iguana Study 3 was photographed 2009 at Elysian Beach Resort at Cowpet Bay Beach in the East End near Red Hook, ST Thomas, US Virgin Islands. Everyday you can find at least 10-20 iguanas grazing and sunning on the grass and beach or hanging out in the bushes. I followed this particular iguana for at least 20 minutes and took at least 50 images so that I could find a perfect picture that I could paint from.

He was started in 2009 and completed in 2010. I was trying to push myself to have more detail than the first two Iguanas Studies that I painted. Of course he was painted with colours that remind of my beloved Caribbean sea. I really liked how strong he turned out and he is definitely gazing at the viewer. This painting, as well as, all of my other paintings are not a exact representations of the subject matter.  I wanted to use the colours to evoke a caribbean theme, and create a beautiful backdrop to support such as strong profile.

This painting is 18″ x 24″ Acrylic on 3/4″ stretch canvas. Original is available for sale as well as GiClee reproductions on unstretched, 3/4″ and 1 3/4″ Canvas of various dimensions.

Presently, there is a 12″ X 16″ GiClee reproduction on un-stretched canvas with 3″ white border available for $150.00 (plus shipping). Please contact me at pauleneedwards@yahoo.ca if you have any inquiries.
